Church news: Daytona Beach SDB Church, Florida

On September 21, 2019, the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Daytona Beach, FL, hosted Central Florida Churches Day. Any time the Seventh Day Baptist churches in the Central Florida area gather together for worship is a special occasion. But this day was extra special for two reasons.

The first reason is that it was the first opportunity for several of the people who came to see our new facility. After being in the same location for 86 years, our congregation moved a mile across town into “The Mansion,” an old home that was renovated to contain our worship facility downstairs and the parsonage upstairs. We held our first service in it and dedicated the building on August 17, 2019. This was our first attempt at hosting an event after getting somewhat settled in.

The other reason that this day was extra special is that we opened the time capsule that had been placed inside the cornerstone of our old building when it was built in 1933. We had just received the cornerstone and time capsule the day before, so God’s perfect timing enabled us to share this special event with our sister churches.

Our church history book contained information about the time capsule, so we knew that it was there and what had been placed inside. However, in addition to the historical church documents that had been listed in the records, there was the bonus of finding a newspaper and some pictures. It was also interesting to find out that the currency of the day that was included was a 1909 liberty quarter.

If you would like to see our new facility and the items from the time capsule, come and see us. We love to have visitors. We would also welcome new members. So if you are tired of shoveling snow, come when you can stay a while.
