Association meets to serve
by Linda Harris
“A Servant’s Heart” was more than the theme chosen by President Danny Lee for Mid-Continent Association in Colorado Springs, October 11-12, 2013. In addition to the messages on the theme (seminary student Philip Lawton on Friday night and Pastor John Pethtel on Sabbath morning), over a dozen attendees went to Crossfire Ministries on Sabbath afternoon to deliver warm blankets and hats as well as to sort and label winter coats and sweaters. Those who were able to go truly exhibited servant hearts.
Crossfire Ministries has been the focus of outreach ministry by the SpringsLife SDB Church as well as Springs Rescue Mission. Crossfire offers a pantry of food, clothes, toiletries, and necessities; a mission thrift store; outreaches to men and women; a quilting ministry; and several outreaches to foreign missions. Crossfire is located about a mile from the church.
Throughout the weekend, our Association pastors were honored. Co-president Danita Lee encouraged the lay people to serve the pastors, but it ended up that the pastors did more serving! In addition, Pastor John Pethtel was installed as the pastor of the SpringsLife church. Pastors Steve Osborn and Scott Hausrath officiated the communion service on Sabbath morning.
Pastor Steve James, next year’s Conference president, gave a presentation about Conference, including a video about the venue at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minn. We talked about making the right choices. The Conference theme song, “As for Me and My House,” was debuted by the praise team and we were treated to a video of the song in the afternoon.
Mid-Continent Association 2014 will be held in Boulder, Colo.
